Drawing 101

Students can expect to hone their observational skills for better drawing techniques through studies in line, value, perspective, texture, proportion, foreshortening, gestural drawing, and practice working with different drawing materials and techniques. 

Watercolor Studio

Students will expect to learn and practice the fundamentals of watercolor painting while exploring interesting and fun subjects. We will explore materials, techniques, and the elements of composition, color, and value/light to improve our fluency in the medium. 

Contemporary Still Life

In this class, we will paint from fun and creative subjects, while learning and practicing the elements of painting (Line, Shape, Value, Color, Texture, Edges). We will look at contemporary and historical artists for inspiration on subject matter and approaches to painting the infamous still life, while making it our own. Students may choose to paint with acrylic or oil.

Intro to Plein Air - Weekend Workshop

$120 for 2-day workshop
Sat, Sun, Apr. 13 & 14, 10 am-4 pm 

For beginners! Students will learn the basics of painting "en plein air" in the Little City of Falls Church and how to approach drawing and painting outside. We will do studies directly from the Falls Church "cityscape" and transition into 1-2 finished painting(s) by the end of the workshop. We will meet on location each day in Falls Church, and the location will be emailed to registered students before the workshop. Students may choose to submit their work from this class to the Falls Church Arts Scenes in the City Plein Air Festival.
